National Conference - Women's Safety in Our Cities
Friday 18th November 2005 at DSC Charity Centre, 24 Stephenson Way, London NW1

Making Safer Places was a three year pilot project run by the Women's Design Service which involved carrying out Women's Safety Audit Training with groups of local women to explore how the built environment impacts upon women's perceptions of safety. The project was delivered in the cities of Manchester, Bristol and London by involving local women in auditing their area and developing recommendations for improving their locality in relation to safety.

Planning Safer Places, run in partnership between WDS and Planning Aid for London, involved women in the design of new areas and buildings.

The Making Safer Places national conference, Women's Safety in Our Cities, took place on 18th November 2005, with almost 100 participants.  The conference marked the end of the 3 year pilot project and sought to disseminate the project and place it in the wider context of women's safety.

Women's Safety in Parks
Do you live or work in Southwark or Greenwich?

Get involved in shaping the future of London’s public parks and green spaces, and help us make them safer for women.

We will be holding two focus groups, one in Southwark and one in Greenwich, to look at policing in our parks, and what effect different systems have on women's feelings of safety.

Greenwich have recently stopped using Rangers in their parks and have replaced them with Community Wardens. If you live in Southwark, and use the parks, have you noticed any differences? Do you have any views about women's safety in parks you would like to put forward?

Greenwich have recently stopped the Parks Constabulary in Greenwich Park and they have been replaced by the Met Police. Do you use Greenwich Park? Have you noticed any differences? Do you have any views about women's safety in parks that you would like to put forward?

If you would like to participate in either of these focus goups, please contact:
