Title:
Regents
Park Estate Environmental Improvements Project
Do
the Regent's Park Estate roads rattle you?
Are the bins an eyesore?
Do the children want more or better play facilities?
Would a mural brighten up your day?
Would artwork in the gardens tempt you in?
More trees?
What about creating 'town squares' on the estate - would this improve
community spirit and provide meeting points?
Regent's
Park residents are being asked to help decide how to spend 2.5
million on improving the estate. The Environmental Improvements
project is the next phase of the West Euston Partnership SRB programme,
and WDS have just begun a 4-month consultation with residents and
community groups to prioritise ways of making Regent's Park a more
attractive and safer place to live, work, walk, drive, cycle, play,
shop and socialise.
WDS
have already begun meeting with key stakeholders in the West
Euston Partnership to decide how we can engage and involve residents.
We aim to consult with 20% of households, which means we'll be out
and about a lot over the next few months! We aim to consult a sample
representing the different age groups, cultures & communities who
make up the estate, and our materials will be available in English,
Bengali & Somali. In addition we will be contacting disability groups
and refugee groups to access some of the less visible residents.
What
are the options?
Architects firm Roughton has
developed a series of options for how to improve aspects of the
estate. Residents will be asked to choose which of the options they
want to go with. Click here
for to see the list of options.
Will
we have to choose the cheapest options then? Obviously some
of the options are more expensive than others and there will need
to be an overall balance between priorities and expense, but this
does not mean always going with the cheapest options. By recruiting
a Residents' Steering Group (RSG) for the project, WDS aims to ensure
that the priorities of the residents are represented at all levels,
and that even after WDS have gone, the RSG will advocate on behalf
of residents' views.
So give us an example
