Recruitment

Director

£38k pro rata, 28 hours per week, Central London

Our current director, Wendy Davis, plans to retire in the autumn after six years leading WDS. Wendy has led the organisation successfully through the changing funding climate, moving towards a social enterprise model and developing exciting new areas of research, training and consultancy.

We wish to ensure that we have expertise and experience in all the areas necessary to take the organisation forward into a sustainable and successful future. However we recognise that the combination of built environment, equalities and voluntary sector management expertise is unusual.

WDS needs knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:-

  • Organisational development, promotion and marketing
  • Strategy development and implementation
  • Income generation and financial management
  • Project and staff management
  • Built environment issues (architecture, planning, urban design)
  • Voluntary sector issues
  • Equalities issues

If you think that you could run WDS successfully please apply using the appliaction form available below. We would like your application to focus on your strengths and to identify the positive qualities you could bring to the post. If you think that you do not meet all the criteria in the person specification, then please tell us how you would deliver those activities if you were in charge; perhaps through job-sharing? outsourcing? partnerships? Let us have your ideas and thereby demonstrate your suitability for this post.

We realise that the job description is very demanding for a salary pitched at charity rates. However the personal rewards to be gained from steering this unique organisation to a sustainable future are great. We currently only have £38,000 in the budget to cover the director functions. However if you generate sufficient income the Management Committee would welcome the opportunity to increase the salary.

The person must also be able to liaise successfully with local authority officers to gain their commitment to working with the Women's Design Groups.
